  1. A Manor and a Shrine

by , 1 May 2010 at 10:03 am (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
Two entries for today. I have time -- and I have a slight headache. Try to bear with me.

Today I finished reading Emma III (ISBN 978-952-16-0915-2). I got to see very little of Eleanor, but liked many of the new characters introduced. Generally this was the best volume so far, even with its minor flaws it was as good as I and II combined in my opinion. Could be in part because volume III concentrates on describing the life of servants in a countryside manor -- definitely closer to ...

  2. "Ei se mitään, meil on teitä leveämmät lahkeet!"

by , 1 May 2010 at 6:59 am (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
As I begin writing this text before noon, a thick fog lies over my hometown. The visibility is perhaps 200 m, anything further is a mere light gray wall. The first of May, vappu. This is supposed to be the picnic day. Yeah, right. Reminds me of how I wrote about Midsummer 2008 in Berries II.

Well, I have no picnic plans -- or do I?

What I was going to do yesterday evening got canceled. I felt like at least spending some time somewhere away from home, so I checked the ...

  3. Trying a New Direction

by , 29 Apr 2010 at 1:49 am (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
Just for the record, I spent a lot of money on comics yesterday. Among other things, I got more volumes of "Emma" by Kaoru Mori (indeed, Angel-chan), a huge one-volume edition of the complete "Bone" epic by Jeff Smith, and my first-ever futanari porn book, "Read Me!" by Hinemosunotari (keep wondering, Miroku-senpai).

I wonder if the moderator who gave me a privileged account on Danbooru did more good or bad to the imageboard.

  4. How Ryo Misaki Got a Name

by , 25 Apr 2010 at 4:19 am (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
The second day of year 2008 AD, at least in the EET zone. I was slacking on the AnimeB Shoutbox, when something unexpected happened: I ran into Ryo Misaki.

I had been a member of the Love Hina Forum for almost two years, slowly learning that the community was smaller than it had first seemed. Possibly I still thought an army of lurkers was giving hundreds and hundreds of votes in every major poll, but at least I had realized the administrators were not unreachable.

  5. Of Young Ladies and Beggar Girls

by , 20 Apr 2010 at 6:42 pm (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
Yesterday (to be more exact, less than two hours ago -- mind my time zone) I finished reading Emma II (ISBN 978-952-16-0914-5).

This volume felt a lot more convincing than the first. Of course it depicted much more dramatic events, but I also think Kaoru Mori's narrative techniques had improved. Perhaps she had had the time to digest some good advice given by her editor. I especially enjoyed chapter 11, where lush details, emotional tension, and switching between the luxury of the ...
