  1. Sureepy & Ronery -- but Alive & Kicking!

by , 27 May 2010 at 6:26 pm (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
On Tuesday evening it was sunny if a bit chilly. Me and my friend went bicycling and had an excursion to a nice rocky seaside spot on the island of Lauttasaari. I had almost forgotten Helsinki can offer such an "archipelago feeling". Must remember to go to Suomenlinna this summer, too. The seamy side of the lawns and cliffs of Suomenlinna (or Sveaborg) is that they tend to remind me of roneriness.

That evening with biking and cooking together was just one reason there has ...

  2. Just a Megahelsinki Moment... on the Rocks!

by , 26 May 2010 at 12:48 pm (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
The last one of my apple yogurt Pocky sticks in my mouth. A recently emptied bottle of Gordon's London Dry Gin standing on the nearest bookshelf. I believe that is the one I originally bought for some weekend drinking with my friend last August; wonder if I should get another sometime soon.

The movie shop I visited today did not have "Haibane Renmei" right now, but I was told they would get a new box in June. I bought three used disks: "Show Me Love", which I have ...

  3. Reviews from My Mill

by , 17 May 2010 at 3:42 pm (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
Today I finished reading "Viime vuonna Kemissä" (ISBN 951-98800-2-X), an album compiling four comic reports of the 2001 Kemi Comics Festival. Reviewing this nice little curiosity feels like a very attractive idea, but the result would probably be of little interest to my readers. (How many do I actually ...
  4. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

by , 14 May 2010 at 6:50 am (Juniper Berries, vol. III)
Today I learned that one of the biggest idols of my youth is dead.

GURU, Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal, born Keith Elam in 1961*, the initiator and MC of the rap group Gang Starr and of the Jazzmatazz project, passed away almost a month ago after a lengthy struggle against cancer.

I am not saying I shared all of GURU's views even in my teen years, just stating that he was probably the most influential rap artist in my life -- in spirit, lyrically, and musically. ...

  5. ...And Was Buried Along with Her Namelessness

Look at this blogs section. Needs more non-Hinarei.

Yesterday I finished reading Emma IV (ISBN 978-952-16-0916-9).

Now we are getting down to the real deal. There are few weaknesses left, the storytelling varies from good to brilliant, most chapters are lush with emotions, and Mori addresses problems even more serious than I had dared to expect. Yes, this is the first time she has beaten the best parts of "Chobits". It is a mystery to me ...
